Happy Summer!

Happy Summer, Everybody!

There is so much that goes into keeping up the appearance of your lawn. If you’re wanting to be the best lawn on the block, it requires a little extra work. We are here to offer some very simple and helpful tips that, when paired with King Green’s lawn care program, can make for an exceptional lawn!First and foremost, mowing your lawn is very important. It is best to mow your lawn at least once per week, but twice a week (or every five days) is best during the growing season.

It is good to set your mower blade on the higher end, especially in brutally hot months. This will help to provide some more shade for the roots as well as promote a bit more water retention. Additionally, this will help create a more resilient and drought-resistant grass. If you don’t care for mowing your lawn, we recommend contacting a local landscaper to do it for you! Simply trimming your grass can lead to great results. If you’re getting parched when you’re outside, chances are your grass and plants need some water as well.

A good indicator of your grass needing water is when it turns bluish- grey in color when exposed to direct sunlight. Your lawn should receive approximately one inch of water per week. Depending on your irrigation system and water pressure, this could take an hour or more per area. For warm season grasses, including Bermuda grass and Zoysia grass, twice a week is usually enough. Cool season grasses, including Fescue, will most likely need additional irrigation when the temperatures start to approach ninety degrees (2-3 times per week). This “long and deep, but not often” approach encourages the roots to reach far down into the soil and makes your turf stronger and more beautiful.

A mistake many homeowners make when watering their lawn is the time of day, they choose to do it. If you water in the heat of the day, it becomes pointless because most of the water will evaporate and not properly nourish your lawn. We highly recommend watering your lawn early in the morning, before 10 a.m.All these tips can be pointless without a proper lawn care program, like King Green.
