Dollar Spot Disease
Bermudagrass and Zoysiagrass can both develop a disease this time of year called Dollar Spot. This disease creates small lesions on the leaf blades that appear tan in color with dark brown margins. Dollar spots usually occur in small patches about two inches across. You may also notice cobweb-like mycelium on the grass during early morning hours when there is dew present.
Sometimes, dollar spot shows up just before your next fertilizer treatment. In these cases, the grass may recover as it grows out with the help of the fertilizer. However, if weather conditions are favorable for disease development, a fungicide treatment may be necessary to prevent the disease from progressing further.
Supplemental fungicide applications typically last for 2 to 3 weeks. We recommend at least two applications, spaced 2 to 3 weeks apart, to effectively control the disease. In some cases, more applications may be needed.
Because these treatments require additional product, there will be an added charge beyond your regular maintenance. To help prevent disease resistance, King GREEN rotates the fungicide products we use on your lawn.
If you have any questions about dollar spot or would like to schedule a fungicide application, please contact us. We're happy to help.
