Warm Season Grass Scalping
After the last risk of hard frost has passed—usually around mid-March—give your Bermuda lawn an initial grass scalping by cutting the grass to about 1".
This will encourage your lawn to "green up." To help reduce thatch buildup, be sure to bag and remove the clippings after grass scalping. Grass scalping, or "lawn scalping," is a labor-intensive task, and you might prefer to gradually lower the mowing height over a two- or three-week period instead of doing it all at once.
Once scalping is complete, raise the mower one notch and begin your regular mowing at that height.
King GREEN recommends warm season aeration for Bermuda grass in late spring to early summer. Please contact your King GREEN representative if you’re interested in this service or have questions about Bermuda lawns.
