Fescue As A Weed

Fescue grass is not commonly thought of as a weed. But if you see a clump of Fescue coming up in the middle of your Bermuda or Zoysia turf, you’ll likely see it as anything but desirable. Fescue seeds, like many other weed seeds, can travel through the air and easily take root in your lawn. One of your neighbors may have a Fescue lawn or a lawn full of weeds!

Although having grass growing within grass may not seem like a major issue, it can quickly become a nuisance. Preventing Fescue from gaining a foothold is the best course of action. Any small patches should be dug out immediately, taking care to remove all roots.

For larger issues, herbicides may be necessary. However, when dealing with a grassy weed like Fescue, herbicide treatments will also affect your desirable turf. If you believe herbicide is needed, contact us to schedule a consultation with your turf specialist.

As with all grassy weeds, prevention is key, and that starts with proper weed control.
