Quenching the Thirst

As the summer begins to heat up and dry out, it becomes more and more necessary to monitor your lawn's watering needs. It is hard to overstate the importance of water when it comes to your lawn's health. Turf is after all 75%-85% water (by weight).A well-watered lawn can respond to sudden temperature changes without becoming overly stressed. Water also gives grass its shape which makes it more durable when subjected to traffic. In general, turf needs about 1 to 2 inches or water per week. This can come from irrigation or rain – so always be mindful of recent weather. With each watering , the soil should be soaked to a depth of 6 inches.Lawns should ideally be watered in the morning when the sun is out but before the day has really heated up. This minimizes the amount of water that is lost to evaporation. Evening watering should be avoided as wet, cool conditions can lead to harmful fungal infections.A comprehensive lawn care program from KingGREEN can do wonders for your lawn – but it can all be for naught if your lawn is not properly watered. If you have any questions about what you can specifically do to make your watering efforts more effective, don't hesitate to give us a call!
