Water Restrictions

Increased Water Restrictions for 6 Georgia Areas

The Environmental Protection Division has approved variances for increased restrictions for the following utilities:
City of Americus
City of Clarkesville
City of Griffin
Heard County Water Authority
Upper Oconee Basin Water Authority (Barrow, Jackson, Oconee, Athens-Clarke County)
City of Jefferson

Americus: Outside water use can only be done between the hours of 12:00 AM (midnight) and 10:00 AM.
Outside water use schedule for water customers NORTH of Lamar Street,days of use are Monday, Wednesday, and Saturday
Outside water use schedule for water customers SOUTH of Lamar Street,days of use are Tuesday, Thursday, and
NO OUTSIDE WATER USE ON FRIDAYS AT ANY TIME

Clarkesville: no outdoor water use allowed EXCEPT for state exempted uses.

Griffin: no outdoor water use allowed EXCEPT for these exemptions:
*Reuse water allowed
*Gray water reuse allowed
*Newly installed landscape installed by professionally certified or licensed landscapers, golf course contractors, and sports turf landscapers: during installation and 30 days following installations only. Professional landscapers must be certified or licensed for commercial exemptions to apply but must water 12:00 midnight to 10:00 in morning.
*Irrigation contractors; during installations and as needed for proper maintenance and adjustments only
*Food gardens for personal use
*Golf courses using reclaimed water
*Retail Garden and Nursery Centers
*Sod producers
*Commercial food and fruit growers
*Commercial car washers
*Commercial pressure washers
*Hydro-seeding
*Construction sites
*Watering-in of pesticides and herbicides on turf
*Other activities essential to daily business

Heard County: no outdoor water use allowed EXCEPT for these exemptions
*Irrigation of home gardens
*Irrigation of newly installed landscapes for 30 days after installation
*Sod producers
*Ornamental growers
*Fruit and vegetable growers
*Producers of food and fiber
*Car washes
*Watering in of pesticides and herbicides
*Other activities essential to daily business

Upper Oconee Basin Water Authority and City of Jefferson:
In general: 1-day per week odd/even for watering with sprinkler system and car washing
All state exemptions remain in place EXCEPT no watering of golf courses (except tee boxes and greens) or watering of athletic fields is allowed.
