Aeration and Seeding
Because Fescue is a bunch-type grass, anyone with a Fescue lawn should aerate and seed every fall (late August through November).Preparing the Lawn for Aeration and Seeding
Mow the lawn to 1" – 1.5" and flag the sprinkler heads, invisible dog fences and anything you don't want damaged by the aerator. Water the lawn as much as possible prior to aerating.
Care After Completion
In order for seed to germinate, the seed must be kept moist. Water for at least 15 minutes in order for the lawn to receive a good soaking. Make sure to follow the watering restrictions in your area as well. Follow this practice for two to three weeks. After three weeks, gradually decrease watering frequency. Try not to mow for at least three weeks. Make sure you have sharp blades on your first mowing of the young grass.

Renovation
Before attempting a renovation, consult one of our experts for further information. Some lawns get in such bad shape or are so full of perennial grasses such as Bermuda or Dallis Grass (see Weeds and Diseases) that they need to be totally killed before seeding. When you think that you need to renovate your lawn, remember that it is A LOT OF WORK.- 1 to 2 applications of a non-selective herbicide on areas to be renovated.
- Heavy dethatching and raking prior to aeration and seeding is very important.
- Follow aeration and seeding as outlined earlier.

Kudzu and Poison Ivy Control
Kudzu and Poison Ivy are unpleasant at best. Fortunately, King GREEN can help you rid your property of these obnoxious plants with our poison ivy control and kudzu control services.
Did you ever wonder how Kudzu made its way to the United States? Check out this advertisement from an early 1900s Home and Garden Magazine.
“This is the most remarkable hardy climbing vine of the age, and one that should be planted by everyone desiring a dense shade. It comes from Japan, the land so productive of curious and ornamental flowers. The blossoms grow in panicles somewhat like Wisteria, but much larger in size and better clusters. Of a pleasing shade of purple and deliciously fragrant. For rapidly covering arbors, fences, dead or old trees, porches or rockeries there is nothing to equal it, growing to a height of 40 to 50 feet if permitted. It flourishes where nothing else will grow, in the best or poorest soil, and owing to its hardy nature, requires little or no care.”

Fungicide Applications for Diseases in Turfgrass
Preventing a lawn from diseases can be as easy as calling King GREEN. There are many different types of turfgrasses in the Atlanta and Charlotte areas, and with the southeast’s hot, humid weather, disease is always a possibility. King GREEN offers fungicide applications for many different diseases that occur in Fescue, Bermuda, and Zoysia.Brown Patch in Fescue
Almost all fescue lawns will get Brown Patch to one degree or another during the summer months. Factors that increase this disease are improper watering, poor drainage, poor air circulation, dull mower blades and mowing at the wrong height. It can be recognized by leaf blades first appearing water soaked and dark. Leaf blades will wilt and become light brown as the tissue dies. King GREEN offers a preventative disease program that will help in controlling brown patch. Our program for controlling Brown Patch begins in late April and continues until September. This program helps control the pathogens that cause the Brown Patch fungus.
Dollar Spot in Bermuda or Zoysia
Bermuda and Zoysia lawns are susceptible to Dollar Spot in the hot summer months. It can be recognized by a 2 inch diameter or smaller tan spot in the lawn. If left unchecked, the spots may grow together to produce large, irregular brown areas in the lawn. Infected leaf blades have light tan lesions with reddish brown borders. You may also notice cobweb-like mycelium when your grass is wet with dew. While preventative measures are almost impossible to predict, if you notice these spots in your lawn, we can help control them with fungicide applications. We recommend a minimum of 2 applications to control the disease, but more may be necessary. (Picture on old website)
Zoysia Patch
If you notice discolored arcs or large circles in your Zoysia lawn you are most likely experiencing an advanced case of Zoysia Patch. This disease is most prominent during the seasonal transition phase, primarily at “green up”. A variety of factors contribute to this disease, which can include compacted soil excessive thatch buildup, and unseasonably warm temperatures during the winter months. The treatment of Zoysia Patch involves professional applications of fungicides applied to the lawn. Please contact a King GREEN professional for questions regarding Zoysia Patch.
